In an effort to maintain public safety (and bring in more revenue?), the city of Somerville will be issuing fees to home and business owners who do not shovel the sidewalk around their property.
For residential property owners or commercial property owners with sidewalks less than 50 feet, not clearing the sidewalk or clearing snow and ice into the street will cost $25 for the first offense, $50 for a second and $100 for each subsequent offense. For larger commercial property owners, the fines are $150 and $300.
