July 26th: Pipe Project=Discolored Water

On Monday, July 26, the MWRA will perform work that may cause discolored water in the higher elevation areas of Somerville from Broadway to the Medford line near Tufts University.

The work is part of an ongoing water pipeline rehabilitation project. There may be a slight decrease in water pressure, and customers may experience discolored water throughout the week.

If discolored water does occur, it will result from a small amount of iron in the pipes. While it is safe for drinking, cooking and other uses, note that iron will stain light-colored items in the laundry, especially when bleach is used. Residents should check water clarity before washing any white or lighter colored laundry during this period of work.

For more information, call the MWRA at 617-305-5950.
