About Those Planes...

189429: That the Somerville Representative on the Logan Airport Community Advisory Committee appear before the Committee on Public Health and Public Safety to discuss the status of the Boston Logan Airport Noise Study and efforts to reduce air traffic noise.

After numerous complaints from constituents, Alderman Bill White Jr took this up in Committee to get an update on efforts to lessen air traffic noise. Although it would have been great to hear that implementations were going to be made sooner, it seems that 2011 is the year of air traffic noise study, otherwise known as Phase 2 of the Boston Logan Airport Noise Studay (BLANS).

The short story is that there are decreased "27 Over" flights which would put planes over the South End in Boston and an increase in "33 Left Take-Offs" which put the planes over Somerville. Phase 2 of the above study is being conducted in 2011.
I know that going into the history of the study and the specifics on the phases will not stop the planes, I am going to provide the following information, so people can file their complaint with Somerville and MassPort (this information is also available in the Links/Information page):
  • Call 311 (617-666-3311 from outside of the city/cell phone)
  • Call MassPort Hotline at (617) 561-3333
  • Submit an online form
You can also qatch arrivals and departures. Select 'launch' at the bottom of the page.

For those of you who would like to learn more about the study, here are some links:
