Greenline Extension News And Field Work Update

MassDOT and the MBTA are hosting two educational public meetings in support of the Green Line Extension project. The presentations at the two meetings will be the same. The meetings will outline the guidelines and requirements used by the MBTA to design successful stations.

September 28 - Argenziano School (Cafetorium), 290 Washington Street, Somerville
September 29 - Medford City Hall (Council Chambers), 85 George P. Hassett Drive, Medford

Each meeting will begin at 5:30 pm with an "Introduction to the Green Line" presentation. New material will be presented starting at 6:15 pm.

As you may have read, the MassDOT Board of Directors opted at its September 7th meeting not to take a vote on the proposed contract amendment to advance Preliminary Engineering of the Green Line Extension project. Instead, the Board directed MassDOT and the MBTA to move ahead with a new procurement for Preliminary Engineering services. The Board also voiced its unanimous support for this important transportation and economic development project and further directed MassDOT to expedite the new procurement. This new procurement process has begun and information about it can be found on the MBTA website. In the interim, planning and civic engagement work will continue on the Green Line Extension project, with some modifications to accommodate the new procurement schedule. We will keep you posted as the procurement process progresses.

Field Survey: Survey work has been completed until further notice.

Boring Program: Weeks ending 9/17/10 and 9/24/10:

Borings within the MBTA Lowell Commuter Rail right-of-way from Brookings Street in Medford to Lowell Street in Somerville
Boring typically occurs between 7:00 AM and 3:30 PM on weekdays.
