City Accepts Grant To Help Pay For Single Stream Recycling Program

The City of Somerville has been awarded a grant in the amount of $18,850 from the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) for recycling purposes. The grant funding is from DEP's Sustainable Material Recovery Program and will be used for the following purposes: $15,000 for wheeled recycling carts for the city's single stream pilot, $750 for materials to publicize single stream recycling, $600 for food waste collection containers and $2500 to publicize food waste collection.

The Single Stream Recycling Pilot Program was implemented in October of 2010 and, according to data published by the Office of Sustainability & Environment (OSE) on the City's website and on the ResiStat Blog, has been encouraging residents to increase the amount they recycle.
