Somerville Street Sweeping Regulations in Effect April 1st through December 31st

Street Sweeping Hours Remain 8am-12pm; Residents Reminded to Observe Posted Signs, Sign up for Boston Sweeper Alert.

SOMERVILLE - Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone reminds all residents that regular street sweeping schedules will resume beginning Friday, April 1st and continue through December 31st 2011. On designated street sweeping days, vehicles must be moved to one side of the street, as dictated by posted signs on each street. Failure to comply with street sweeping parking regulations will result in a $50 fine. Additionally, despite changes to some signage throughout the City, street sweeping hours will remain 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Signage will be reflective of these times prior to the start of the 2011 street sweeping program.

"As we continue to work to ensure that our streets, neighborhoods and squares are clean and safe, I encourage all residents to review our street sweeping procedures in advance of the start of the 2011 season," Mayor Curtatone said. "It is important that residents comply with these regulations not only to ensure a clean community, but to allow our work crews to clear catch basins which, if blocked, can lead to flooding and sewer backups. Particularly with the heavy rains and flooding we saw in 2010, we have all seen first hand the importance of this service for the safety of our homes and neighborhoods."

In addition to signs posted on all Somerville streets, residents are encouraged to sign up for Boston Sweeper alerts to receive reminders about street sweeping in your neighborhood. Boston Sweeper is a service offered by boston.com, and is independently operated outside of the City of Somerville. To sign up for e-mail alerts, visit www.parksomerville.com, or call 311.

Residents are reminded that, though street sweeping times had been changed on some signs, parking restrictions will only be in place on street sweeping days from 8:00 a.m. until noon. Cars will not be ticketed after 12:00 p.m., and signs will be changed to reflect the correct schedules accordingly.

For more information regarding street sweeping procedures, please call the city's 311 constituent service line or visit http://www.somervillema.gov/.

Your best bet is to call 311 and get the exact schedule that your street will be swept. Unfortunately, the alerts are via email only through Boston.Com.
