Craigie Drawbridge Inbound Now Open!

Although slighly late, the inbound lane on the Craigie Drawbridge has reopened allowing access to 93 South and Storrow Drive. Although opened periodically, this lane has been closed since the start of construction in November of last year. At one point, the outboud lane was also closed cutting all access to major highways to vehicular traffic. Cyclists and pedestrians were also rerouted during all phases of the renovation. It was supposed to reopen on April 1st, 2011.

The Craigie Dam and Craigie Drawbridge carry McGrath O’Brien Highway (Route 28) between Land Blvd. in Cambridge and Leverett Circle in Boston. As part of the $3 billion Patrick – Murray Accelerated Bridge Program, a construction contract was awarded to J. F. White of Framingham in June 2009 for the structural rehabilitation of the Dam Bridge and the complete replacement of the Drawbridge.

Hi Courtney,
Thanks for this post! I was doing some digging around online to try and determine a) what this bridge is really called b) if the bridge was opened back up c) who to contact to ask to remove all the signs in Somerville that say it is still closed.

I think I found out all three things herein, on your nifty ward 5 blog.

So, to answer my own questions:
a) The bridge is called Craigie Bridge, NOT the Leverett Circle Drawbridge as its listed on the signs

b) The bridge IS back open, NOT still closed like the signs say

c) YOU are who I am contacting to help in my quest to remove these doubly misleading signs.

What do you think?
thanks!
Andy
