I'm writing to invite you to join me, friends, family, and supporters at a Campaign Kickoff & Backyard Party on Sunday, June 12, from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. at 29 Conwell Street, off Highland Avenue, near Somerville Hospital. Rain or shine! If it rains, we’ll squeeze into our living room and kitchen.
Suggested contribution is $30 or $50, but please stop by whether you can make a contribution or not. There will be great Italian food and pizza, music and entertainment, and most of all, good folks from Somerville -- people make the party!
Children are welcome and there will be a children's arts and crafts table staffed by two Somerville High School students.
I am now in my sixth year representing Ward 5 on the Somerville School Committee. I am deeply appreciative that the voters of Ward 5 have elected me three times to represent them on the Somerville School Committee.

I have loved serving on the School Committee! I am truly fortunate to have this opportunity to work hard to improve our children’s education. I have met and worked closely with many wonderful people, especially in Ward 5. The work has been challenging and exciting because many great changes are taking place in our City and our Schools.
Our work to improve our Schools is about more than improving the lives of our 5,000 students and their families. It’s about strengthening our whole community. We all benefit from good public schools. With better schools, more families stay in Somerville, put down roots and contribute their unique talents.
My daughter Rae graduated from Somerville High School last spring and has just completed her freshman year at Tufts University. I am profoundly grateful for the excellent education she received in the Somerville Public Schools. Our Schools serve the vast majority of our children well, and most parents are happy with their children’s education, but there are still major improvements needed so that every child receives an outstanding education.
After five-and-a-half years on the School Committee, I seek another two-year term to accomplish key goals that I have worked closely with my colleagues and the Superintendent to establish, and to address some major issues that we will begin to consider this fall. Decisions on several of these issues will shape our Schools for the next decade. Please email or call me if you would like to hear more about specific issues affecting our Schools.
