The Word Around The Ward...

A trip to Lil' Vinny's last Friday night had me hearing something I haven't heard since the official enforcement date of the new parking regulations in Magoun Square..."there will be a wait." This statement usually has hungry patrons thinking twice about eating there, but not me! Leigh Harkins Gerow and I happily had our meal at the bar with a smile to see the restaurant filled and happy! I'll be sure to update you when the meters are replaced.

I was very happy to see that Magoun Square was all over the Board of Alderman's agenda for this evening. The economic stimulus and business boosting initiatives are on the minds of the genuinely concerned and we're ready to go to work! Also on the agenda, is the resolution of those lost parking spots alongside Olde Magoun's Saloon. We fought and succeeded in getting one of them back and I couldn't be happier :)

Be sure to Like the Facebook page of Alderman At Large, Jack Connolly! I got my formal invitation last week and wanted to pass it along. While your at it, Like Ward 5 Online too!

The Somerville Homeless Coalition will be holding their annual 5K on October 1st. Be sure to sign up to run, volunteer or donate to the amazing organization that brought us "Somerville Is For Lovers" t-shirts and tank tops. I have one :)

Both the Board of Alderman and the School Committee will be resuming their meetings after a short summer break (for some of them, at least) this and next week. As always, they will be aired live, featured on the meeting portal, and streamed on the internet. See the respective postings here on the website for information.

A big Thank You to The Somerville News for wishing me a happy birthday last week in their News Talk section. This is the second year in a row they've done that and I found it to be very nice! An equally as big a Thank You to Courtney Koslow, Maura Vogel, Jennifer Lawrence, Liam White, Caroline Shea, and Beth Adams for attending my birthday dinner at Olde Magoun's Saloon. Once again, it was a gathering of great people, great atmosphere, and great food. Last, but certainly not least, a Thank you to Rebekah Gewirtz (Ward 6 Alderman/Board President) and Bill White (Alderman At Large) for their well wishes at Tuesday night's Finance Commitee Meeting. I think that will finally end my birthday/week.

Did you feel that on Tuesday? Or, were you not standing in the right place? Yup, a 5.9er that shook Virginia was felt around here in Somerville. Did you feel it? Leave a comment below!

I did not feel the earthquake. Unless a quake happens on a weekend, we who abut Max Pacwell's Groan (the gift that keeps on giving) will never feel it if it's under a 7.0 since we and our houses are being vibrated 5 days a week by heavy equipment.
