The Word Around the Ward...

There is nothing better than attending the Board of Alderman meeting and seeing submissions about Magoun Square on the agenda! That's right folks, the long awaited follow-up to the May 25th meeting has been scheduled for September 14th at City Hall with a 6pm start time! For those of you playing at home, anticipate some folks to come out of the wood work to give their two cents about Magoun despite not attending the May meeting. For those of you genuinely interested, please be sure to come up and share your vision with members of the Committee on Housing and Community Development.

Spotted in Olde Magoun's Saloon last night was True Grounds owner, Amy Thibeault, who eats/sleeps/breathes the local scene here in Somerville! She is heavily involved with Somerville Local First and always frequents Magoun Square! Nice to see her enjoying the Sox game and playing trivia with fellow business owner, Dan Maher.

Speaking of Olde Magoun's Saloon, it won't be too long before a sign is installed granting one legal parking spot back beside the building after losing three total. Every little bit counts and a lot of patrons were happy to have the previous decision overturned...even if it meant gaining only one spot.

Today is September 1 and that means that the Somerville Public Schools will be opening up for the 2011-2012 year! Here are some important dates to note from the official school calendar:
  • Tuesday, September 6th for all faculty
  • Wednesday, September 7th - 1/2 day for students in Grades 1-12. Full day for all faculty
  • Thursday, September 8th - First full day of school for students in Grades 1-12
  • Monday, September 12th - First day of school for youth in Grades PK-K

See Someone? Hear Something? Let me know!
