Word Around The Ward...

Magoun Square was the hotspot for notable Somervillians this past weekend as Candidate for Ward 4 Alderman, Christine Barber, was spied hanging out with friends on Friday night. Director of Traffic & Parking and Ward 5 resident, Matt Dias, was seen strolling through Saturday night with his very pregnant wife, Christine.  Also seen was SPARC founder, Courtney Koslow, chowing down at Olde Magoun's Saloon with her wife, Maura.

City Hall was the place to be on Tuesday night as the Legislative Matters Committee held a meeting of the whole to discuss increasing the city's liquor licenses that can be issued, local hiring, and Ward 7 Alderman Bob Trane's noise ordinance. None of the items were voted on and the meeting was cut short after Ward 2 Alderman Maryann Heuston noticed there wasn't a quorum by the time the third item was being discussed. This prompted Alderman At Large Dennis Sullivan to motion an adjournment, thus, ending the meeting. Too bad one Alderman couldn't stay 30 minutes longer, or I would've been able to write about something from that meeting. Oh well...maybe next time.

Ward 7 preliminaries are over and November will host a show-down between incumbant, Bob Trane, and challenger, Katjana Ballantyne. There will also be races for Ward 4 and 3 Alderman, as well as, Alderman At Large. Check out the Election 2011 page of the website for information.

Discussion on the Green Line will be coming to City Hall through the Committee on Housing and Community Development on September 28th at 6pm. The agenda features two submissions through the Board of Alderman by Ward 7 Alderman Bob Trane and Alderman at Large/Magoun Square business owner Bill White surrounding the recent Green Line Extension delay news. All interested citizens are encouraged to attend.
