Harvest Fest 2011 Set For October 15th!

Local Beer, Wine, Food and Entertainment to Support Somerville Local First

SOMERVILLE (September 22th, 2011)—Somerville Local First, a nonprofit network working to build sustainable local economies, has announced its third annual Festival & Fundraiser – Harvest Fest 2011 held in two sessions on Saturday, October 15th, 2011 at Arts @ The Armory.

As festival-goers have come to expect, Harvest Fest 2011 will deliver an exceptional collection of food, drink, and fun - all in celebration of Local.

Somerville Local First Executive Director Joe Grafton says: “For as little as $20, guests can support the vital work of our nonprofit network, all while enjoying some of the best beer, wine, food and entertainment that our community has to offer.”

What would Harvest Fest be without the beer? Thanks to the work of returning beverage sponsor, downTown Wine & Spirits, attendees will get to sample unique brews from celebrated locals Pretty Things, Rapscallion, Narragansett, Harpoon, Mayflower and Farnum Hills Cider with newcomers Clown Shoes and more New England breweries to follow in the coming weeks.

The Local Restaurant Tasting will be managed by David Flannigan, General Manager of Foundry on Elm, a Somerville brasserie-meets-tavern staple in Davis Square. David’s team will highlight a number of locally-owned and operated Somerville Restaurants at each session, giving participants one delicious serving each. This year’s event will also welcome back previous attendees The Burren (Session 1), City Slicker Cafe (Session 2), Eat at Jumbo’s, Highland Kitchen (Session 1), The Independent (Session 1), Posto (Both Sessions), Ronnarong Thai Tapas Bar (Both Sessions). We’ll also welcome some new attendees in 5 Horses Tavern (Both Sessions), 3 Little Figs (Session 1) and a sneak preview of the coming Davis Square restuarant, Saloon.

The festivities will break down into two sessions. Session 1 will feature Hugh McGowan, host and performer at The Burren Open Mic Night, doing what he does best - curating a live showcase of local musicians. An accomplished songwriter, McGowan is known for playing contemporary Irish-inspired folk. As Harvest Fest moves transitions into the night, Session 2 will treat attendees to the electronic stylings of The Improper Bostonian’s Best of Boston DJ, DJ Die Young. A quickly rising star, DJ Die Young is all over the Boston scene these days, spinning beats everywhere from electronic music festival, the Together Festival to his regular sets at The Improper Bostonian’s 2010 Best Thursday Night, Make It New, and Royale.
