HarvestFest 2011 Rocks the Armory!

Somerville Local First certainly didn't disappoint with their HarvestFest 2011 last Saturday night at the Armory on Highland Avenue. I attended the second session which featured the best in local food and brew, complimented by DJ Die Young who kept the party going until close.

This year boasted presence from City Slicker, Saloon, 5 Horses Tavern, Posto, Ronnarong, Eat at Jumbo's, Redbones, The Chocolate Tarte, BBC, Clown Shoes, Farnum Hills Cider, Harpoon, Mayflower, Naragansett, Pretty Things and Rapscallion.

My personal pairings of the evening included: Blue Hills Dark with Posto bruschetta and cannoli; Mayflower IPA with Eat At Jumbo's Jumbalaya; Rapscallion Honey with RedBones Ribs; Naragansett as the night cap.

Food and beverages could be found on both the main floor and the Armory catwalk. The staged DJ was surrounded by the Boston Hoop Troop who wowed the audience with hula hoop tricks and techniques. Backing the entertainment was a giant projection of the Twitter timeline of attendees' tweets about the event which needed to include a HarvestFest2011 hashtag in order to be seen on the screen.

As businesses were wrapping up and leaving for the night, attendees turned the fest into a dance party propelled by a combination of techno and old school classics pumped through the speakers from DJ Die Young's laptop!
