Application for a Commonwealth Charter Rejected

The Elementary and Secondary Education Commissioner has declined to recommend that the Somerville Progressive Charter School (SPCS) receive a Commonwealth charter this year.  According to the Charter School Office, SPCS's application was rejected because of identified shortcomings in the proposal.  Next week, SPCS's founders will receive a written evaluation of their proposal and they will have the next five months in which to address any shortcomings before beginning the application process again.  It is not uncommon for applicants to receive charters after addressing the Commissioner's concerns in their second application.  SPCS's founders look forward to bringing a new, K-8, public school option to Somerville families in September 2013. We invite interested members of the public to join us in this exciting effort.
