Thursday’s Board of Alderman meeting saw a submission from
Ward 6 Alderwoman Rebekah Gewirtz requesting that the Curtatone administration
study the feasibility of creating a low cost loan program for locally-owned,
independent businesses.
Legislative
item #192782, was adopted by the Board of Alderman and was sent to the
Finance Committee for follow-up conversations. Ward 2 Alderwoman Maryann
Hueston is the chair of the Finance Committee and has long been a supporter of
local businesses.
Studies show that locally-owned, independent businesses
provide some of the best employment opportunities for residents, making the
inclusion of this resolution on Heuston’s agenda all the more worthwhile as she
also cosponsored the Local Hiring Ordinance that is still traveling through
legislative land in the Board of Alderman.
This item has not been added to a Finance Committee agenda
as of yet.
