Legislative Matters Continues Talks on Food Trucks

The Legislative Matters Committee will continue their discussions on an ordinance surrounding the licensing of food trucks. This ordinance, if passed, will give the Board of Alderman jurisdiction over the licensing and location of food trucks in the city. This was submitted through the Board of Aldermen in January and was sponsored by Ward 7 Alderman Bob Trane, Ward 2 Alderman (and current candidate for Register of Deeds) Maryann Heuston, and Alderman at Large Dennis Sullivan. This was submitted after a food truck was spotted for a few days in the Ward 7 area.

Vendors, themselves, showed up and were allowed to speak at the last meeting, however, the committee is still seeking the input from the Chamber of Commerce and established business owners as there could be negative impact from the inclusion of food trucks in area business districts. This ordinance would only apply to new applicants. Current license holders will grandfathered.

There are two other items on the agenda for this meeting that include the Open Meeting Law and a special request from the Mayor.

The meeting begins at 6pm and the committee includes Ward 6 Alderman Rebekah Gewirtz (chair), Aldermen at Large Jack Connolly (vice chair), Bill White, Bruce Desmond, and Ward 3 Alderman Tom Taylor. All are welcome to attend, but publicly speaking is at the discretion of the chairman as this is not labeled a public meeting.
