Word Around the Ward

The Somerville Beat gave Magoun Square a big shout out on Twitter on Tuesday, writing “@MagounSquare looks terrific after the latest clean-up!” I tweeted back and told them that I would relay the message to all the residents that came out and volunteered! Thanks to everyone and The Somerville Beat for the compliment!

Daddy Jones Bar has their official website up, although, not filled with much content. For the most current information, Facebook and Twitter seem to be the best sources. Check out http://www.daddyjonesbar.com/ for three (so far) updates on Magoun’s newest eatery by owner, Dimitra Tsouranis.

You can rent a boat or canoe at the Blessing of the Bay Boathouse (32 Shore Drive) for $10 between 9am-5pm Monday through Friday and 9am-1pm Saturdays and Sundays. This goes until August 25th. Have a big group? Call Somerville Recreation Department at (617) 625-6600 and ask about pricing and amount of people needed for group rates. There is free parking and benches for lunching. For more information, check out a great article in the Somerville News of Mayor Joe and his sons enjoying the water this past weekend.

When the Board of Aldermen come back from vacation, they are faced with some pretty interesting topics to discuss including the ordinance regulating food trucks, why the Traffic Commission decides on fee and fine hikes, and what to do about Verizon’s double poles. Fall is looking to be a fun season to attend some meetings.

The race for Register of Deeds continues along as more signs are popping up for the two Somerville-based candidates in Ward 5 and political events are being advertised:

• According to a recent campaign email, Maria Curtatone is having sign holdings at Fresh Pond Circle in Cambridge on Tuesday and Four Corners in Woburn on Thursday-both events are 5pm to 7pm.

Maryann Heuston will be having a fundraiser at The Independent in Union Square (#75) on Tuesday July 31st from 5:30-7:30pm with a sign holding starting at 4:30pm.
**Just before the September 6th Election Day, I will do my usual online poll. Be sure to vote!**
