The Board of Aldermen will hold a special meeting in the Aldermanic Chambers of City Hall on Thursday at 7pm. This meeting is open to the public and all residents/concerned citizens are encouraged to attend. This is a slight interruption in their summer hiatus, however, their August 23rd meeting is still cancelled.
You can watch the meeting live on Channel 22 (Comcast) or Channel 13 (RCN). This meeting will be rebroadcast at various times throughout the week, as well as, streamed live on the internet. A video of the meeting is saved on the City's Meeting Portal under the Recent Media header.
Included on this agenda are many Union Square-related items surrounding the recent pact between the city and MassDOT that makes land immediately available for the construction of the Green Line station set for a 2017 opening. Also up for discussion is a tax increase to fund the Community Preservation Act to be placed on the November ballot. The Somerville Journal goes into great detail about this tax in a recent posting on their website.

The Community Preservation Act is another SCAM on the citizens. The only land aquisition that should be done is on the already overbearing Tax Exempt properties in the city. B&M Railroad, MBTA, Tufts, Churches no longer providing real services, etc. There should be a moratorium stopping any more land in the city from being Tax Exempt. The way things are going now the city will be over 60% tax exempt. Time for the politicians to be held accountable and stop the overbuilding in a city that is well known as being one of the smallest and most congested in the area.
