Licensing Commission Meeting Brings Good News for Magoun Square

There is no better way to spend a Monday night in Somerville than by going to the Licensing Commission meeting at the TAB building! Why do I hear snickering?

Olde Magoun's Saloon was approved for a special license to dispense beer outside at the Paulaner Biergarten Tour they have planned for September 15th. The event  will feature the Paulaner beer truck which has been conducting a national tour this year and recently contacted owner Greg Coughlin about doing a stop in Somerville. The truck includes chairs, tables, awnings, and-of course-plenty of Paulaner beer! The event will run from noon until 6pm and will be the first of its kind in Magoun and should bring some much needed visibility in the square. If successful, this event could be used as an example to get more fests in Magoun!

Also on the agenda was the follow-up for On The Hill Tavern after a three-week early closing and mandatory police detail was imposed at the last meeting. On the Hill was the victim business of unruly  patrons who were eventually arrested along with one of their friends in early June. All of the men have been banned from entering the establishment. They completed their three-week early closing requirement and can now replace their police detail with a second doorman on Fridays and Saturdays.
