Dear readers: I just received this message from Mark. ~Courtney O'Keefe
Dear Courtney,
Since the subject has been raised publicly, I want to confirm for your readers that this summer I have been laying the groundwork to run for the Ward 5 Alderman seat in 2013.
My top priority continues to be to serve Ward 5 as your representative on the School Committee, which I have done for 6 1/2 years now. I will continue to work hard and do everything I can to improve our schools in that role through the end of 2013.
This summer I have been spending a lot of time working for the election of three terrific candidates, Denise Provost for State Representative, Elizabeth Warren for U.S. Senate, and Maryann Heuston for Register of Deeds.
I did not think it appropriate to speak publicly about my interest in running for Ward 5 Alderman because the next municipal election is 15 months away in November 2013 and there are two extremely important elections coming up on September 6th and November 6th, 2012. But since the subject has been raised, and rumors are flying around which may affect some of my colleagues on the School Committee, I wanted to clarify things.
Yours,
Mark Niedergang
Ward 5 School Committee Representative

Courtney for School Committee?
Great news!
I for one will support Mark. Sean O'D has been increasingly mediocre and has been primarily focused on being able to run for mayor, which I don't think he has a shot at and won't run for in the end.
Since the rumor mill/confirmation mill (is that a thing?) has started, and the 2012 election cycle is now well underway, what municipal challenges are we going to see in 2013?
No races in wards 1, 3, 4, or 6.
Ward 2 may be vacant if Heuston wins Deeds. But who runs? Don't know enough about wd 2.
Wd 5 may see a healthy matchup of Mark vs. Sean. I see Mark winning by a slim margin. So who runs for Wd 5 SC?
Wd 7 may see another Trane vs. Ballantyne race, with Ballantyne edging out Trane.
At Large, the incumbent 4 won pretty handily last time, but I see Sean Fitzgerald making another run and finally unseating someone. Maybe Todd Easton runs at large (i hope so) but unfortunately i don't see him winning. Maybe Capuano Jr and LaFuente Jr run?
Mayor: Joe's been in there 5 terms. That's a LONG time, as long as Capuano and Brune who holds the record. He has done about as much as he can do in the Ville, with the successful redevelopment of Union and Assembly, and the GLX is stalled at the state level. Too bad about ikea.
I think he starts becoming more of a surrogate for Liz Warren after Labor Day and takes his act on the road statewide to lay the groundwork for Gov or LG. Sean O'D, Gewirtz, Cap Jr and Bill White start laying groundwork for mayor.
