The Somerville Foundation for Animals proudly presents the 3rd annual Somerville Dog Festival! Once again, it will feature an exciting array of dog sports demonstrations as well as a one-of-a-kind opportunity for the public to try these activities with their dogs. There will also be the ever-popular fashion show, best trick contest and best dressed dog contest. Admission is free but monetary donations as well as pet care items (including pet food, collars, leashed, carriers) will be accepted at the gate. We hope you enjoy the day with us!
Mark your calendars! The Somerville Dog Festival returns this year on September 16.
The event will take place at Trum Field on Broadway from 10 AM to 3 PM. The festival is free and your dogs--well-behaved, licensed and on leash--are welcome!
New this year: Susan Conant, author of the "Dog Lover's Mysteries", is the Festival Em-cee. Other awesome authors attending the Festival:
- Darlene Arden, Certified Animal Behavior Consultant and author of, among others, "Small Dogs, Big Hearts"
- Kate George, mystery writer
- Patricia Grasso, winner of a Romantic Times Reviewers' Choice Award, a Romantic Times KISS Award, and a National Readers' Choice Award
- Clea Simon, author of the Theda Krakow and Dulcie Schwartz mystery series, featuring lovable cats
What makes the Somerville Dog Festival unique is the variety of demonstrations, including agility, competition obedience, disc (frisbee), flyball, freestyle dance, search and rescue, and more. The Festival also boasts the only "Try It" ring of its kind: You and your dog can try agility, obedience, disc, nosework and rally with experienced trainers organized by City Dog Training. And did we mention it's free?
Somerville's police dog, Max, will make an appearance. Max and his handler, Officer John Tam, are awesome!
You can enter your dog in the ever popular "best dressed" contest!
A dog fashion show sponsored by RiverDog is another fan favorite!
Annamaet Petfoods, Beantown Tails Magazine, Fenway Bark, Horseware, Massachusetts Veterinary Referral Hospital, Polka Dog Bakery, and Veterinary Pet Insurance are just a few of the companies who will have booths at the festival with information, samples and items for sale.
The festival raises money for the Somerville Foundation for Animals. Donations are tax deductible. But the festival is free!
