The Word Around the Ward

There was a rat spotted on Vinal Street Tuesday night. Just a reminder, please do not throw food (especially bread) out on the streets as it is attracting rodents. Also, keep all trash covered and secured!

Elections are over and I would like to extend my congratulations to winners and challengers for well run campaigns. Lets move on to November!

There is a big meeting set for September 19th surrounding the revitalization for Union Square. It will be hosted by the Committee on Housing and Community Development, is designated as a public hearing, and begins at 6pm. This is important to all business districts because, if approved, it will bring the first Green Line Station to Somerville and an opportunity to see how businesses navigate the landscape change and construction.

Daddy Jones Bar is sporting some beautiful new signage and tweeted their latest opening information, "couple more coats of paint, couple more inspections. Then, train staff. Then: open :-)"

Tickets have gone on sale for Somerville Local First's Harvest Fest set for October 27th! Get them and more details here!

  • While this is happening, the first annual Corn Toss Tournament hosted by The Pub and benefiting the Ryan Harrington Foundation will be taking place at Trum Field starting at 9am.
  • On the 16th, Trum goes to the pups as the 3rd Annual Somerville Dog Festival, a.k.a DogFest 2012 kicks off at 10am and wrapping up at 3pm.
