The Mayor's Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development is pleased to announce the kickoff of the "Somerville by Design" initiative. We hope you can join us for the first Somerville by Design event at the Center for Arts at the Armory on Wednesday, October 17th at 6:30pm.
Somerville by Design is a public engagement process that will use physical planning and urban design to help residents visualize postive change in their neighborhoods. The Somerville by Design initiative will produce new plans for the areas around future Green Line stations. The initiative is intended to integrate past and ongoing community-based planning efforts, as well as new ideas from residents, business owners and other community members.

A new website has been established at www.somervillebydesign.com which will serve as a clearinghouse for information. Please visit the site for more detailed information about the initiative and upcoming events and meetings.
The proposed schedule is as follows:
• Wednesday, 10/17, 6:30pm: Public "visioning session;" kickoff of the initiative
• Wednesday, 11/28 and Thursday, 11/29: All day "open studio" events with urban designers, culminating in an evening "pin-up" event
• Tuesday, 1/8/13: Presentation of draft physical design plans for public comment.
