Mayor Gets Pay Raise, Aldermen Hold Off on Theirs

Tuesday's Legislative Matters meeting saw the attending members of the Board of Aldermen vote to increase the Mayor's salary by the recommended $20,000, but they also motioned to hold off discussions of their own increases until they receive information on what's happening with other Union negotiations around the city.

Citing the fact that SMEA has gone without a contract renewal for several years, Alderman At Large Dennis Sullivan admitted that he would vote 'no' should the legislation come before him to raise his own pay. Fellow Alderman at Large Jack Connolly motioned to request that the administration update them on the negotiations and to keep the legislation in committee until that request has been satisfied. This will likely lead to an Executive Session request by the Mayor at an upcoming Board of Aldermen meeting. The increase in the Mayor's salary is also subject to full board approval, as well.
