ResiStat Recap: Community Path to be Ready by Late Summer 2013

Community Path users rejoice, the extension from Cedar to Lowell Street will be ready by late summer 2013 according to Wednesday night's ResiStat presentation.

The Community Path Extension from Cedar to Lowell will bring the popular activity path closer to the Magoun Square neighborhood by summer of 2013! All necessary funds have been obtained with bidding for the project to go out (at the latest) by 2012 with construction to start in Spring 2013 and completion by late Summer 2013.

During this time, access to the Cedar-Willow and beyond will still be open to the public, but only construction vehicles for the path will be able to access the extension until it is finished.

Once completed, users will be able to access the extension from Lowell Street via a shared portion of the MaxWells Green development. The access point is to the left of the development. The entrance walls of MaxWells Green are quite high and visibility may be limited, so please be careful when entering when it's completed.

There is an upcoming meeting about the full extension on the path to be held at the Holiday Inn in December. All interested parties are encouraged to attend.

The almost $2 million project has been intensely advocated for by numerous Somerville-based organizations, including the Friends of the Community Path, as well as residents.

Upon completion, the path will feature a pervious middle section and a rubberized edging for runners. Informal play structures, ampi-theatre seating section, and artistic rail accents complete the extension.

An interactive page with a Community Path Google Map Featuring Markers and Comments has been created to keep everyone updated and collect ideas and suggestions.
