Road Race Information for 11/22

Beginning at 8:00 a.m., streets in the Davis Square area may be temporarily closed to accommodate the running of the annual Gobble Gobble Road Race.

At 9am, the race route will include Holland Street, Broadway in Teele Square, North Street, Powderhouse Boulevard, Broadway through Ball and Magoun Squares, Medford Street, Central Street, Summer Street and Elm Street (see map below).

Brief and temporary road closures should be expected in these areas as runners pass. Somerville Police will be stationed throughout the course to assist with traffic flow and pedestrian safety. Roads are expected to be fully re-opened by noon.

Seriously? Yet another massive roadblock during one of the busiest travel days of the year? Right in the middle of the morning when people are doing last minute shopping?

Awful decision by the city. Just awful. Start the race at 6 AM.

This race has been run for years...why all the hoopla now?

I know it has been, but it just seems like ti is coming on the back of increasingly more road races and street closures.

Maybe it was wrong to pick on the one that actually has a nice annual tradition, but the sentiment still stands. This road race, as well any other (and bike races) should be run early in the morning to have the least impact on vehicular traffic as possible.

This holiday race is for charity, not just for runners. Running it at 6am would kill the race

Not much 'last minute shopping' that you can do on Thanksgiving, anyway -- blue laws mean all supermarkets are closed.
