The Word Around The Ward

Since the doors of Daddy Jones Bar officially opened on November 1, the place has been packed and is keeping Dimitra and company very busy. Facebook check-ins include Peter Jehlen, Mike and Stephanie Capuano, Jennifer Lawrence and Leigh Gerow. Haven’t been, yet? Check it out and comment what you think! Also, visit their updated website at www.DaddyJonesBar.Com.

Mike Dulock is plugging away up on Highland Avenue, publishing some great pictures of the offerings in his meat case to all his Facebook fans. The most recent snap shots of the Italian sausage and pepperoni made me wish I still worked close to Somerville. Do check him out at 201A Highland Avenue.

The Winter Farmer’s Market is coming back to the Armory on December 1 from 9:30am to 2pm. They are currently looking for a market manager, so do check out their Facebook page for more details if you're interested.

Dan Maher is wrapping things up in his studio as he prepares to bid Magoun Square goodbye to, temporarily, relocate in Cambridge. No definite spot has been made public as of yet. Do read the nice write-up in the latest edition of the Somerville Scout.

The current candidates for Ward 5 Alderman are setting up their campaigns with some talented and influential Somervillians, marking one of the earliest preparations for a Ward run to my knowledge. Traditionally, candidates wait until the late winter, early spring to announce and prepare, but both seem to be gearing up for the election season a year early.

There is still no word on anyone interested in running for the vacant School Committee seat in the Ward. Maybe everyone is busy on one of the two Alderman campaigns?

Olde Magoun’s Saloon’s famous Wednesday Special Menu will feature cheese during the month of November with a Bacon Double Cheeseburger Soup and Classic Queso Fundito-just to name two. Do stop by and try it out!

It looks like the Science Fiction Association may be doing some exterior work on their building in Magoun Square as they have removed the metal grates recently. I'm hoping the improvements continue!
