Deadline to Submit Application for Ward 1 School Committee Position Looming

The School Committee is clearing one hurdle as they search for a potential candidate to serve as Ward 1 School Committee Representative. The application deadline is tomorrow afterwhich the Committee will decide on who serves out the rest of the unexpired term. All elected officials are up for reelection in November of this year.

Applications must be received at 42 Cross Street; Somerville, MA 02145 by 5:00 p.m. on January 10, 2013 in order to be considered by the School Committee. Applications may also be submitted via email to tpierantozzi@k12.somerville.ma.us. To be eligible, applicants must meet the following two requirements:  

1. Applicant must be a resident of Ward 1, Somerville; and
2. Applicant must be registered to vote in Ward 1, City of Somerville.

The position is being advertised as the former School Committee Representative, Maureen Cuff-Bastardi, was asked to fill the seat for resigning Board of Aldermen member Bill Roche. Cuff-Bastardi's recommendation for her seat was rejected by the School Committee who opted to open up the search to the general public per the City's Charter.
