Updated: Somerville Out of Flu Vaccinations as Epidemic Spreads

The Somerville Health Department has cancelled all flu vaccinations for the remainder of the 2012-2013 winter season, stating, "The City of Somerville's remaining flu clinics for Winter 2012-13 have been cancelled. The City received approximately 700 doses for the season, and administered the final dose of our supply on January 8th. Residents seeking flu shots at this time are advised to contact your primary care physician, or your local pharmacy." The Daily Beast is now reporting that the Flu epidemic is spreading across the United States and blames the media for not covering it properly. This is me doing my part.

Luckily for Somerville, there are numerous CVS and Rite Aid locations that do have doses should residents need one. Call ahead and make an appointment. If you can't, Olde Magoun's Saloon makes a fabulous Hot Toddy should you get sick. I found this out, the hard way, a couple of years ago. Thanks again to Colette :)

For more information on the 2012-2013 Flu Season, check out the Center for Disease Control's (CDC) page dedicated to the illness which includes the Flu View.

Update: Mayor Joe Curtatone has verified that the City has requested more doses.
