The Word Around the Ward

The political scene in Somerville will be dramatically changing post-November based on recent reports that a couple of Alderman and School Committee members are not running for re-election or, as in the case of Mary Jo Rossetti, aiming for higher seats. Races have now opened up in Wards 1, 3, 5, and 7. Two challengers have thrown their hats in for Alderman at Large and Joe Curtatone will move through this election season unopposed. School Committee is seeing races in 2 and 5. Yet, the question remains: what's up with Bob Trane?

Business is great in Magoun Square as we’ve welcomed two more and see the continued success of many others! Be sure to stop by King of Wings as they are now open while PennyPackers will be opening this summer!

On the Hill Tavern is going through some administration changes. According to a License Commission agenda, they were seeking some transfers from long-time partner Tim Taddia to Mark Antonelli. The sports bar also continues with menu and entertainment changes customized to customers’ suggestions and an increasing clientele.

There will be a Green Line Station design meeting on the Gilman and Lowell Street locations on June 4th from 6-8pm to be held at the Arts at the Armory (191 Highland Avenue).

Somerville Local First will be hosting an 80's-themed prom on Friday June 21st from 8-midnight. Tickets are on sale now!

I have noticed a big improvement at on the hill. They are doing a great job and I hope they stay. I love the pool tables.

The new Modelo's market is fantastic, and such a great addition to the neighborhood! And I can now personally vouch for King of Wings, so definitely give them a try!
