The Book Shop Launches IndieGoGo Campaign

While reading Davis Square Live Journal, I came across a post revealing that The Book Shop, 694 Broadway (Ball Square), has launched an IndieGoGo campaign to raise money in an effort to remain open.

Owner Gil Barbosa writes, "I opened The Book Shop two years ago on June 1st 2011 after the bookstore i was working in was closing, my hope was that my bookstore would become an important part of a vibrant community.

We as an independent have struggled to survive in the Amazon ,Barnes and Noble world but we believe it is very important to have a local and intimate book store that really is from and about the neighborhood we serve, and to that end we feature poetry readings and book readings from local authors and poets, as well as some wonderful children's events. Our turnouts to events like these grow each time we do one and that tells us we are serving our community and filling a much needed void that the impersonal book chain just cant handle."

The Book Shop goes a little further than just buying and selling books. Gil hosts family-friendly musical events, book signings, and readings.
