The Word Around The Ward

Big Green Line news came out this week as a construction firm was hired for the Green Line Extension. White Skanska Kiewit will help design and construct upcoming phases of the Green Line Extension project, the project team announced.

Also launched, was the improved map of the Green Line Extension on the STEP website. The map now features 3D renderings for all the proposed stops.

National Grid construction continues on Hinckley Street, so keep that in mind as you navigate around Magoun Square and nearby neighborhoods. The work should last a month or two, weather permitting. This construction is for new main and gas lines.

Albion Street construction continues, so also be careful in this area, as well.

It is August 1st, so expect the School Committee candidates to be increasing their door knocking schedules as the Primary is just over a month away. Caroline Shea-Rosas, Ross Richmond and Laura Pitone will be on the ballot Primary Day-September 24th and have just over a month to ID their voters.

Residents gathered at the VNA last night to discuss proposed infrastructure work for Cedar Street. Huge thanks to everyone who attended...full recap will be posted soon.

There will be a clean up of Magoun Square on August 15th, beginning at 5:30pm. Participants are asked to meet at Henry Hanson Park (Medford Street and Partridge Avenue). The cleaning regiment will include weeding and sweeping, so please bring trowels, dustpans, brooms, gloves, garden shears for weeding, a screwdriver to dig weeds up in the sidewalks, and plastic grocery bags. Another great way to participate is to plant flowers outside of your business or home. You do not have to be a Magoun Square or Ward 5 resident to help. Please email Amy at amy_timmins at me.com to sign up!

PennyPacker's is in the final stages of submitting paperwork and getting inspection times set up. The Square is patiently awaiting the arrival of this awesome new eatery!
