Public Health and Public Safety to Meet


The Committee on Public Health and Public Safety, chaired by Alderman At Large Jack Connolly, will be meeting on Wednesday September 25th at 6:00pm. Among the 26 item agenda are numerous submission by members of the Board of Aldermen regarding rodent infestation in the City. Other items include inspections of specific properties throughout the city and the April 20th incident at the Armory.

The agenda includes:
· 193318: Discuss in Committee That the Director of SPCD (ISD) inspect 24-26 Morrison Avenue for unhealthy and unsafe conditions and report the findings to this Board’s Committee on Public Health and Safety.

· 193855: Discuss in Committee That the Director of SPCD and the Director of Health inspect properties at the intersection of Webster Avenue, Concord Avenue and Prospect Street, for a severe rodent problem and implement the same response as was used in Ward One.

· 193979: Discuss in Committee That the Director of SPCD (ISD) inspect 24-26 Ossipee Road for building, health and zoning code violations and take all necessary actions.

· 194052: Discuss in Committee That the Director of SCPD (ISD) inspect the rear of 495 Medford Street daily and cite the owner for violations, and that this Board’s Committee on Public Health and Safety follow up.

· 194244: Discuss in Committee That this Board’s Committee on Public Health and Safety investigate the foreclosed, abandoned and decaying property at 42 Henderson Street to begin the receivership process and have it cleaned.

· 194668: Discuss in Committee That the Director of SPCD (ISD) and the Director of Health provide a detailed plan for addressing increased rodent activity in the neighborhood of Washington and Calvin Streets and report back to the Ward 2 Alderman.

· 194760: Discuss in Committee That the Director of SPCD (ISD), the Director of Health,and the Licensing Commission investigate why the Armory on Highland Avenue used its driveway on April 20 from 2 PM to Midnight for cooking food and as a staging area, and inform this Board of all violations that took place that day and what will be done to ensure it does not happen again.

· 194815: Discuss in Committee That the Director of SPCD (ISD) bait the intersection of Wilton and Lowell Streets for rodents and ensure that all residents in the surrounding areas have covers on their trash barrels to prevent rat infestations.

· 194825: Discuss in Committee That the Director of SPCD (ISD) bait the specified locations for rodents and report back to the Ward 4 Alderman upon completion.

· 194830: Discuss in Committee That the Director of SPCD (ISD) inspect 3-5 Walter Terrace for violations and fine the landlord accordingly, and report back to the Ward 4 Alderman.

· 194835: Discuss in Committee That the Director of SPCD (ISD) provide the Ward 2 Alderman with a plan for addressing rodent infestation in the areas of Beacon Street, Washington Street, Calvin Street and Waldo Avenue.

· 194843: Discuss in Committee That the Director of SPCD (ISD) bait all catch basins on Vinal Avenue in response to recent sightings of rodents.

· 194909: Discuss in Committee That the Director of SPCD (ISD) provide the Ward 1 Alderman with an update on the attached properties.

· 194973: Discuss in Committee That the Director of SPCD (ISD) inform the Ward 1 Alderman of proactive rodent control measures being implemented now that rodent activity and visibility is more prevalent.

· 194981: Discuss in Committee That the Director of SPCD (ISD) inspect 35 Adrian Street for all structural and health code violations, issue appropriate fines, contact the owner regarding remediation, and report back to the Ward 2 Alderman in writing.

· 195075: Discuss in Committee That the Director of SPCD (ISD) present this Board with a comprehensive plan for rodent control that is inclusive of all facets of preventive measures including commercial and residential enforcement of ordinances, manpower, geographic emphasis, and other resources.

· 195232: Discuss in Committee That the Director of SPCD (ISD) and the Director of Health inspect 39 Pinckney Street and all abutting proprieties for rat infestation and the death of two pets due to rat poison.

· 195237: Discuss in Committee That the Director of Public Health and the Director of SPCD (ISD) inspect the Shaw's at 275 Beacon Street and report back to this Board on its findings and actions taken.

· 195243: Discuss in Committee That the Director of SPCD (ISD) inspect Winter Street for an increase in rodent activity and overflowing trash, distribute literature about proper trash storage, and report back to this Board with findings.

· 195244: Discuss in Committee That the Director of SPCD (ISD) bait Walker Street for rodents and distribute literature about the proper way to store trash and compost bins.

· 195249: Discuss in Committee That the Director of SPCD (ISD) bait Maple Street, Oakland Avenue, Marshall Street from Broadway to Pearl Street and Richdale Avenue from School Street to Sycamore Street.

· 195250: Discuss in Committee That the Director of SPCD (ISD) and the Director of Public Health utilize all means possible to combat the rodent infestation in the Florence Street neighborhood.

· 195251: Discuss in Committee That the Director of SPCD (ISD) review the rodent control plan for the construction of the Shore Drive pedestrian bridge which will access Assembly Square.

· 195307: Discuss in Committee That the Director of SPCD (ISD) and the Director of Public Health appear before this Board’s Committee on Public Health and Safety to provide an update on the city-wide rodent problem, including all areas that have been baited, and to present a comprehensive approach to deal with this problem, including the necessary resources and funding.

· 195328: Discuss in Committee That the Director of SPCD request the Neighborhood Impact Team to investigate 11 Pearson Road for all building, fire and zoning code infractions, including the possible use of the basement as a living area.

· 195349: Discuss in Committee That the Director of SPCD (ISD) inform the Ward 1 Alderman of proactive rodent control measures being implemented. (2nd request.)
