Weather permitting, on Monday, October 7th, beginning at 9 a.m., a City contractor will temporarily interrupt water service for residents on Albion Street (between Lowell Street and Centre Street) in order to replace a gate valve. Water is expected to be restored by 3 p.m.
Once service has been restored, you may experience temporary discoloration in your water, and though the water is safe to drink, residents are advised to run the water until it is clear and to avoid washing clothes, especially white fabrics. If any rust stains appear on the wet laundry, the clothes should not be dried, and you should call 311 or(617) 666-3311 if calling from outside of the City during normal business hours to receive a free bottle of rust remover.

Why didn't the city notify us of this? No phone call. No flyer in the mailbox. If I wasn't looking at facebook, I would not have known about this. Thankful that I found out, but would have preferred a little notice.
The city will tell you (and the city water department has recently done so verbally and in print) that they have no
legal obligation or mandate to give advance notice(s) for water shut-offs.
Any advance notice announced at all is looked upon (by them) as a COURTESY on their part---as told to me.
I know first hand after registering a complaint via a phone call to the water department regard a water shout-off in my neighborhhood. Did get a flyer water shut-off notice to the house; but that flyer also stated what was told to me when I phoned in a complaint to the water department......as I stated above.
Bottom line, residents have to go with the flow, or no flow!--pun intended!
Hey poster #1.
I don't know how long you have been in this city, but if you moved into this city (not born and raised here) the "welcoming committee" either failed to mention, or you weren't paying attention to the "first rule" that all residents must comply with:
i.e. pay your tax bill, WATER BILL , and rent when due; and don't make "waves" otherwise you will not even get a courtesy short notice water shut off in the future.
It appears the second poster has been "straightened out"!
I was happy to get the notice on the 6th that it was happening on the 7th. That's an improvement for this city.
Now there goes a satisfied/happy customer.
