The Word Around the Ward

On the Hill Tavern announced that they have a new chef entering the kitchen to rock out a new lunch special. Chef Ronaldo Anaceletto comes to the Magoun Square sports bar from Todd English's Olive in Charlestown and is already putting his spin on the menu with an 8 for $8 lunch special from 11:30-4:00pm. Check out On the Hill's Facebook page for all the details.

Olde Magoun's Saloon is featuring their Bacon Palooza menu on Wednesdays throughout January. The bacon is Gluten-free and runs 5-11pm on Wednesdays.

The Sons of Italy-across from Trum Field-was approved (with conditions) to include residences in a new building that will border the Medford line. The approval came at the January 8th ZBA meeting. This is the latest in a few developments happening in Ward 5 with two more being proposed on Lowell Street.

Speaking of Lowell Street, a meeting will take place this evening in the 3rd floor community room of the VNA (259 Lowell Street) to discuss the proposals for 231 and 235 Lowell Street. Abutters have already been flyered and a formal announcement was posted on Ward 5 Online Sunday night. The meeting begins at 6pm.

City Officials are still working on the streetscape designs for Lowell Street through the Somerville By Design Program. The word around the ward is that the ideas will be presented in the coming months and would include increased tree planting among other ideas. Ball Square is also under construction as of right now. Public meeting information will be posted as soon as it is made available.

The Salvation Army is undergoing a renovation that started in November and should be finished in the coming months. This renovation will include HVAC upgrade, new lighting, outside facade improvement and repaving and restriping of the parking lot (weather permitting).
