The Word Around the Ward

I would like to wish Rob King the best as he leaves the City to bring his Engineering expertise to Framingham. The City is now advertising for a new City Engineer on the Employment Opportunities page.

Terrible news was announced on the Somerville Media scene this week as we all learned Chris Orchard from the Somerville Patch was included in the recent layoffs. This outlet did a great job delivering news to the City and referenced many Ward 5 Online posts. I would like to wish Chris the best of luck and hope that he finds another media home in Somerville.

Seen in Magoun Square recently was Michael Capuano Jr. of the Planning Board and Community Preservation Act Committee with his lovely wife, Elizabeth, enjoying dinner at Daddy Jones Bar. It's always nice to see our City and Elected Officials frequenting local businesses in Ward 5.

Big, huge congratulations to Ward 5er Kim Moss who will be bringing her compassion and expertise to the Council on Aging as a Program Director! This job was meant for someone like Kim who spent the last four years of her life navigating the world of elderly care while tending to her Mom, Clara, until her death this past summer. Good luck, Kim!

The Finance Committee will be hosting a Public Hearing regarding the increase in residential and commercial property valuations and real estate taxes on February 4th at 6:00pm in the Aldermanic Chambers of City Hall. This will be a meeting of the whole which allows all members of the Board of Aldermen to attend, comment and vote.

Be on the lookout for the posting of year-end campaign finance reports on the Elections Department page as the deadline has passed for Committees to Elect of now and yesteryear to submit their forms.

Ever wonder what $3500 can rent you in Somerville? Check out this Curbed article to see what you can get in the 'Ville and the 'Bridge. At least, there's one in Ward 5.

I would like to extend my most heartfelt gratitude to all those who have called, texted, emailed and Facebooked their well wishes to my Father who underwent his third open-heart surgery on Wednesday January 22nd. Although he has some rehab ahead of him, he is feeling good and looking forward to coming home! Thank you, again!
