The Word Around the Ward

Magoun Square lost a storefront this month as the tailor/dry cleaner left their space at 503A Medford Street. This service was a part of a business surge experienced by Magoun in the past two years and offered affordable tailoring and dry cleaning prices. The storefront is now available for rent should anyone know of a business looking for space.

Davis Square wasn't the only restaurant destination-place to see raises in taxes. A couple of Magoun Square businesses also saw increases, although, manageable. How was your tax bill this year? Was the decimal in the place you thought it was going to be?

How did everyone survive the snow yesterday? The common consensus is that the DPW is doing a great job clearing the streets, especially, compared to surrounding cities. Please feel free to comment your thoughts below!

March 16th will mark the last Davis Square Vintage Flea Indoor-Market for the season. Do stop by between 11am and 5pm to see the latest and greatest vintage goods from some of the best vendors in Massachusetts. All this takes place at the Armory - 191 Highland Avenue.

Olde Magoun's Saloon hosted their 9th Annual Great Chili Cook-Off right before the Seahawks pummeled the Broncos this past Sunday. Congratulations to Dave for taking home the first place prize with his submission-Chili #2-and congratulations to all participants for taking the time to feed all the voters.

Mission of Burma will be headlining a benefit concert for Somerville Local First on Sunday February 9th, 7:30pm, at the Regent Theatre in Arlington. Tickets are $27.00 and $22.00 (includes $3.00 restoration fee) and can be purchased through the Regent Theatre Arlington online or at their box office located at 7 Medford Street in Arlington, MA, 781-646-4849. Doors are 7 PM with show time at 7:30 PM. Check out this earlier post for more information on SLF and the bands playing at this show.

Snow removal was good, as usual. They already came through this morning with bobcats and front loaders to clear out the crosswalks.

Will be at the Arts at the Armory this Sunday. Hope to see all the regulars.

I'm impressed with the DPW.

I am really happy with the work the DPW has done. The streets are down to the pavement and pre-salting has really made a big difference on my street.

My taxes went up a little bit, but I think it was from the CPA-which I don't mind paying because we're getting it back.

The cpa $$$ was designed to be senior tax exempt upon application by seniors after Jan. 1, 2014.

However, the paperwork and requested documentation is mind-boggling. Man-hours requried, and info asked for is not worth applying for the senior exemption.

If it ever comes up for a vote again; me and my senior friends having voted for it the first time around, will vote against it.
