The Word Around The Ward

Money talks ended on Monday with an expected vote, tonight, by the full Board of Aldermen to approve the Mayor's proposed FY2015 budget. As expected, Recreation and Communications went through hell with Personnel not receiving the rumored resignation request that some Villens heard about. Not rumored, but included, was the Council on Aging. Thankfully, most of the Board saw the importance of properly serving our Seniors and prevented money from being cut.

Now that the budget stuff is over, the Board of Aldermen will be taking a little break as President White has submitted the cancellation of the last meeting in July and the first meeting in August per tradition. The Board convenes back up on August 28th at 7:00 PM after their July 10th meeting.

Spotted taking a nice walk on Lowell Street was our Representative Denise Provost who looked like she was enjoying the beautiful day! Also spotted was the lovely Rachel Kelly grabbing a coffee in Magoun Square.

The Glenwood Road block party was a huge success on Saturday! Neighbors filled the streets and satisfied their appetites with homemade food and beverages. There was even a great pool for kids to cool off in, courtesy, of money raised by a group of children holding bake sales to afford the rental. Awesome!

A second meeting on the proposed residential project to replace the Shield Gas Station located at 620 Broadway will be held on Monday June 30th at 7:00 PM in Pescatore Restaurant (158 Boston Avenue). All abutters and concerned citizens are encouraged to attend. The development team and their attorney will be on hand to answer questions during the meeting facilitated by Ward 5 Alderman Mark Niedergang.

Did the section of Magoun Square that has been up for sale finally sell? No, according to the Real Estate website, but yes according to a City Hall insider. As of right now, it is not pictured as a sold property, but one source says that the owner has signed an agreement. Please feel free to comment any information you have.

Big Happy Birthdays go out to Ward 5ers Paula LeBlanc and Tom Gardner who are celebrating this week! SCAP's Cory Mashburn is also celebrating this week, as well.
