Goodbye, Alderman Taylor.

I walked into the Aldermanic Chambers that afternoon excited to hear testimony on the Wage Theft Ordinance and relieved to take the night off from campaigning. While listening to Rand Wilson deliver his thoughts on the topic, I had the following exchange with then Ward 3 Alderman Tom Taylor.

"Courtney, whenever members of the public provide a handout, you need to read it very thoroughly. It's important that you read it because people take the time to gather all this data and come up here and talk to us about it. You know...you've come to plenty of meetings. Take the time to read it and ask questions."

"Thanks, Tom, I'll do that. I really appreciate the advice, thank you!"

"You're welcome. Now, go to the Mayor's Office and grab me a Diet Coke."

That was Tom. Words cannot express how heartbroken I am to hear of his passing. He was a gentleman and an inspiration to anyone who desires to enter Somerville politics, is there now or has been there in the past. It was an honor to serve with him on the Board of Aldermen and I am a better woman after sitting next to him for the short amount of time at the horseshoe I was blessed to. My most heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and all of Ward 3. Rest in peace, Alderman Emeritus Taylor.

Just learning this now thru you - nice remembrance of Tom's spirit while serving on the Board for so many years.
