There will be a Licensing Commission hearing on July 16th at 6pm in the TAB Building (167 Holland Street) for an approval to have Himgiri Enterprises, Inc. (owners of K2 Market) approved for a location change to 500 Medford Street. All interested parties are encouraged to attend! As you know, the original location for this was down the street at 514 Medford, however, the sale of the building fell through. Luckily, another location (500 Medford Street) is being purchased for the beer and wine store.
Gouners are still waiting for what's behind the trash-bagged windows of the old Cara Donna's building only seeing and hearing construction for the past couple of months. Word around the ward is that a market is going in there and that it will be Brazilian-themed, however, no community meetings have been held to gain feedback from residents on what they would like.
A summer clean-up of Magoun Square will be held on July 19th from 5:30-7:30pm and will cover the area between CVS and Partridge Avenue (including Henry Hanson Park). The last clean-up effort was very successful with 13 participants and 27 bags of mulch. Can't make it? We have one more planned in August! Sign up if you're around!
Somerville Local First will host a SummerVille Cool-down at Olde Magoun's Saloon on July 26th from 5:30 to 7:30 and will feature a couple of local breweries, as well as, a diverse food spread courtesy of Chef Howie Haywood! This will be everyone's opportunity to meet the new Executive Director, Kat Rutkin. Get your tickets!
A robbery was reported in the Clyde Street area of Ward 5 this past weekend :( This summer, please be sure to lock windows and doors, as well as, register your bicycle and electronics with the Police Department. Also, my Mother's tire was slashed on Monday night, so please keep an eye out for suspicious behavior!
Please note that the Board of Aldermen will be going on their summer hiatus as the last meeting in July and the first meeting in August are cancelled. They will resume meeting at the end of August, but can still be called and emailed should you need them. Please see the Alderman Page for links to their contact information.
Neither Maria Curtatone nor Maryann Heuston seem to be taking any time off this summer as both are leading very active campaigns in their bid for Register of Deeds.
Heuston: The next fundraiser for the Ward 2 Alderman candidate will be held on Tuesday (5:30-7:30) at Raso's (209 Mystic Avenue) in Medford.
Curtatone: Maria is busy making appearances at recent Democratic City Committee gatherings and gaining the endorsement of Local 12 (Plumbers/Gasfitters) & Local 17 (Sheet Metal Workers).
Both are certainly leaving their mark in Ward 5 as Medford Street is rocking Heuston signs while Central Street loves them some Maria Curtatone. Please see their websites for more news on future fundraisers and recent endorsements and, of course, remember to vote on September 6th!
