The Word Around the Ward
My apologies for such a late Word Around the Ward this week. The stomach flu and a family medical issue kept me from pulling in the news from the street this week in a more timely manner. I will also be returning to my meeting schedule in February, so be on the lookout for me during the Board of Aldermen meetings.
The long-awaited Asian eatery (499 Medford) and ice cream shop/bakery (517 Medford) in Magoun Square should be opening in the Spring.
Although I am flattered that I was considered for the Clerk of Committees position, I must put the rumors to rest and announce that I am not going to be returning to the Aldermanic Chambers in that capacity.
Renee Loth wrote a great piece on Somerville for the Boston Globe, published on January 18th. Titled, "Somerville-The Little City That Could," Loth gives a great synopsis on the changes that have happened in the city.
The Finance Committee will be hosting a meeting of the whole and a public hearing on the tax increase that many residents and businesses experienced this month. The meeting will be held on February 4th at 6:00pm in the Aldermanic Chambers of City Hall.

Hope you fell better.

Do you have any more information about the ice cream/bakery shop? What is its name? Who is/are the owner(s)?
This ZBA document should give some information: http://www.somervillema.gov/sites/default/files/documents/MedfordSt517.pdf
The other new business is looking at a March/April opening and went before the ZBA at the same time as the ice cream/bakery. I assume they will be opening around the same time, but I have seen little activity there.
